"Mere Appearances: Meditations on Walt Whitman" 2000, Installation on the water at Waterplace Park Boat Basin, Sept.8-10
Canadian Poet and interdisciplinary artist TS Thomas conducted an intensive two-day workshop as part of his Convergence 200 Poetry Installation. The Workshop employed various selections from Walt Whitman as catalyst for informal discussions, writings, readings, recitations and visual presentations.
Participants were encouraged to produce their own annotations to the selected Walt Whitman texts which will be incorporated into a large (hybrid) installation.
Thomas' installations involve the placement of large letters on various public grounds. He creates a dynamic interplay of literary, visual and theatrical elements. Spontaneous encounters with the public are an integral part of the performance.
